SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Behavioral Health Technician (Intern) is responsible for providing mental health assessment, treatment planning, counseling intervention services, and continually monitoring and documenting patient progress and outcomes. The Behavioral Health Technician (Intern) functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team, coordinating care and reporting patient progress and well-being to the clinical team and involved parties in accordance with the patient’s individualized treatment plan. As agreed upon, the Behavioral Health Technician (Intern) provides services to patients within the home, office, or community.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Under the supervision of an assigned site/clinical supervisor, interns will have opportunities to observe, learn and/or demonstrate various tasks related to counseling. These tasks include but certainly are not limited to
- Empathetic communication with clients regarding addiction, mental illness, and recovery
- Client admission and orientation process
- Administration and interpretation of screening/assessment instruments
- Development of treatment or service plans for individual, group, and/or family counseling sessions
- Discharge planning
- Referral/linkage to community resources, including social, legal, and educational providers
- Interdisciplinary treatment team meetings
- Clinical supervision sessions
- Group facilitation includes life skills groups, psychosocial, psychoeducational, parenting, and domestic violence groups. Etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s degree in a license-eligible behavioral health field of Counseling.
- Strong interest in working with individuals in recovery related to mental health and substance use needs.
- Knowledge and experience in assessing and treating persons with mental illness and/or substance use disorders are preferred.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Able and willing to establish and conduct healthy relationships that encourage accountability, personal growth, and responsibility.
- Organized (people and task-oriented) and possess strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication
- Understanding of how legislation affects client care
- Good interviewing and listening skills
- Solid understanding of research and best practices
- Skilled in intake, case management, and discharge policies
- Must be willing to take on all aspects of the position.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse community of people in age, class, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, physical and mental challenges, sexual orientation, political values, etc.
INTERNSHIP EXPECTATIONS
- Commitment to work through an anti-racist lens (an active and conscious effort to work against multidimensional aspects of racism (e.g., evidence of educating self about privilege, histories of race, and historically oppressed voices.)
- Interns are required to attend a supervision bi-weekly and a 1:1 once a month.
- Interns may request additional supervision from their supervisor or other providers in the agency when needed.

Salary: $14.00 per hour
